  • How to Clean and Maintain Silver Jewelries

How to Clean and Maintain Silver Jewelries had a customer who purchased Long Silver Threader Chain Earrings and recently complained on how the color changed to black and that it was defected. Of course, like any other seller, I was trying my best to explain the situation but the customer insisted to exchange or return the item. In the end, I had to process the return since the product was sold out.

I’ve been loving and wearing silver jewelries for several years now. I learned how to take good care of it from my mom. I’ve never thought that cleaning and maintaining it can become an issue. And so, I would love to share my personal tips and tricks on how you can clean and maintain your own set of silver jewelries.

  1. Carefully rub the silver jewelry with silver polishing cloth (included with any silver jewelry purchase from until it shines.

  2. The best way to prevent silver from turning black is to perform regular maintenance. I personally DO NOT wear them during shower and I keep them in a bag when I’m not wearing it. Since the invention of silver polishing cloth, I stopped using toothpaste to clean them up.
  3. Proper storage of such jewelries will also do the trick. Always store each silver jewelry in a separate bag. I usually leave the end of the chain out for necklaces and bracelets. A jeweler once told me that this trick prevents the chains from tangling.

Know that silver can rust or tarnish over time because of its exposure to moisture or sulfur in the air. With such environmental factors, tarnish and rust can cause silver to darken and look like it is black.

I hope this article helps. How about you? Do you know other ways to clean and maintain your silver jewelries? Kindly share your personal tips and thoughts in the comment box below.
